Hello, Did not read all the posts. . But

On xp when i enter the settings in media player:  tools options devices display properties.

I can change the video played aspect ratio.  It workes fine.

But when i enter these settings in  win 7 32 or vista 64 these settings doesnt work. There is a bug there.

This is a serious bug because there are sites that play content on microsoft embedded player.

The aspect must be changed because not all content is in the right format.

Its not just an insignificant bug. This is a major one.

I hope Microsoft will take this bug seriously now and release a fix.

For gwhizofto : My problem, is not to play a recorded video.

i have a player that can change the aspect ratio

But my problem is  when i use a web site that uses a windows media player embedded   and

the content is not broadcast in the right aspect ratio i cant change the aspect ratio.

Tried to to play the url in quick time but quicktime  says its an invalid url

The url from right click on stream from windows media player in a site properties location

Beside The ability to change the aspect ratio in a window.  there is a difference in full screen also:

The content broadcasts to a web site with windows media player embedded in it The player automaticlly transforms the squashed content into the the screen size if you are in full screen mode This way if its 16:9 you need then just go to full  screen  and

the aspect ratio problem is solved.   If you have a 16:9 screen

Going to full screen wont help you. The content stays squashed.

And also you cant change the the aspect ratio for a window not in full screen as discussed above

So, mabye its an encoder codec issue.

This is not a solution when you are watching a DVD. the issue is with DVDs. it seems that WMP is the only one reader in the world incapable to read correctly the DVDs. the picture is severely compressed in the center of the image, and damned stretched

Your Dialog is for the vfw-Interface yellow icon, this is only for leagcy apps.

WMP12 uses the DS-Interface, start it with red Icon.

If you don t see thsi entry you propably installed some weird codec pack. If true then i recommend to rip it all out, get the latest Version from

Windows media Player 12 does not give me an option to change the aspecet ratio of a video. I really adore WMP12 more than the VLC player that I use on my windows 7.The sound codes work awsome.. But it is the problem with the aspect ration. If a

video is coded at 4:3, there is no option in WMP12 to change it unlike most other player which gives an option to change the aspect ratio. Is there a way to force WMP12 to take  the default video aspect ratio.

I thank you for the time taken to answer this question in advance.

I do not have a copy of WMP 12 available right now so I cannot

verify that the following info applies but it does work for WMP11

maybe it would be worth a look:

Windows Media Player has an option to change the Aspect

Ratio but it s complicated and does not work for DVDs

though it does work for video clipswmv. avi. mpg, etc.

Open Windows Media Player and go to

Tools / Options / Devices tab / Display / Properties button

Drag the slider to a new position / Apply / Yes / OK / OK

If you try itlet us know if it applies to WMP12.

it seems that the media player does not interpret the aspect ration information auf the video file.

If you play 16:9 encoded videos DVDs work well, the Media Player does not stretch it to the correct aspect ration like other players automatically.

I like the media player, but this is a big issue.

The advice from John does not solve the problem the right way.
